With the Meramec River expected to crest at 26.3 feet by noon on Friday, flooding poses a significant threat to our Pacific, MO community. City officials are urging all residents to take action to safeguard their property and to evacuate if necessary. Here’s what you need to know and do to stay safe during this time.
Evacuations and Safety Measures
Evacuations are in progress across Pacific as water levels rise. Residents in low-lying areas should prepare to leave and seek
higher ground. City officials expect water to flood First and Denton Roads as early as this afternoon, with additional road closures planned if water levels reach critical points. Roads south of the railroad tracks will be closed as needed, and Jefferson Street has already been closed near the industrial park.
Remember: Homes will need to be reinspected before evacuees can return, so be sure to gather essentials and any valuable items before you evacuate.
Sandbagging and Property Preparation
To help protect homes and businesses, the city has set up a sandbagging station at the commuter lot. Residents should bring their own shovels, as the city will provide sand and bags. Consider these steps for safeguarding your property:
Move valuables and electronics to higher areas in your home.
Place sandbags around doors, garages, and other entry points.
Secure outdoor items or bring them indoors to prevent them from being carried away by floodwaters.
Shelter and Refuge Centers
Two refuge centers are available for residents in need:
Tri-County Community Senior Center – Open 24 hours a day.
Mission Community Church – Open Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Please note that these centers are open for temporary refuge only and do not provide overnight accommodations.
